Plant's Life Cycle

What Is a Plant Life Cycle?

  • A life cycle is the way a living thing grows, changes, and makes more of itself.
  • Plants start as tiny seeds and grow into big plants over time.
  • This cycle repeats again and again to keep our world green.

Stage 1: The Tiny Seed

  • Every plant starts its journey as a small seed.
  • The seed sleeps in the soil until it has everything it needs to wake up.
  • Inside every seed is a tiny baby plant waiting to grow.

Stage 2: Growing Roots and Sprouts

  • When the seed gets water and warmth, it begins to grow.
  • First, tiny roots grow down into the ground to drink water.
  • Then, a small green sprout pushes up through the dirt to find the sun.

Stage 3: Becoming a Young Plant

  • As the plant drinks water and gets sunlight, it grows taller.
  • It starts to grow green leaves that help the plant make its own food.
  • The stem becomes stronger to help the plant stand up straight.

Stage 4: Flowers and New Seeds

  • When the plant is an adult, it grows beautiful flowers.
  • These flowers make new seeds inside them or inside fruits.
  • When the seeds fall to the ground, the whole cycle starts all over again.

Plant Life Cycle Examples

  • A tiny acorn falling from a tree and growing into a giant oak tree.
  • A sunflower seed growing into a tall yellow flower with many new seeds.
  • A bean seed in a jar is growing roots and long green vines.
  • An apple seed grows into a tree that gives us delicious red fruit.

Lesson Summary

  • The life cycle of a plant has four main stages: seed, sprout, young plant, and adult plant.
  • Plants need water, soil, and sunlight to move through their life cycle.
  • New seeds from adult plants make sure that more plants grow in the future.
